Committee Member Guidelines

Are you interested in serving on an APGNN Committee?
APGNN is always looking for motivated members to help on our committees.

Responsibilities of Committee Members

  • Commit the time and effort required
  • Work collaboratively
  • Communicate effectively by email
  • Perform committee assignments in a timely fashion
  • Participate on committee conference calls
  • Help develop and execute the committee action plans
  • Be a member in good standing (your dues are paid in full)
  • Have a passion for the mission
  • One year commitment, with option to continue for as long as you are interested!

Membership Committee

  • Works closely with NASPGHAN administrative office and coordinates a variety of activities aimed at member recruitment and retention.
  • Reviews and approves membership applications, providing access to member-only content, enrollment in the APGNN ListServ, publicizing and coordinating mentoring and clinical practice awards, and organizing conference scholarships.
  • Manages the APGNN Mentoring Program, which matches new members with seasoned GI nurses for support.
  • During the annual meeting, the Membership Committee helps with recruitment efforts and assists in planning the social event.
  • The committee works to develop new and exciting member benefits each year, including dual membership options, special discounts, and more.

Clinical Practice Committee

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the APGNN Pediatric GI Nursing Assessment-Based Certificate Program .
  • Committee members contribute to the development of modules, serving as Subject Matter Experts for a variety of Pediatric GI topics.
  • Every 3 years, module content is fully reviewed and updated in keeping with medical advances.
  • Contributes to chapter review for the APGNN Clinical Handbook , which is updated every five years.

Media Committee

  • Publishes the APGNN Newsletter biannually
    • The newsletter provides committee reports, information on conferences, scholarships, awards, and new member highlights
  • Responsible for managing our social media pages and website
  • Involved in marketing efforts for APGNN

Clinical Inquiry Committee

  • Highlights and supports Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), Quality Improvement (QI), and clinical research as it relates to Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
  • Serves to support APGNN members by providing a sounding board for research ideas, questions, and guidance.
  • Develops practice resources to help members write abstracts and review clinical pearls of nursing research
  • Solicits abstracts to be submitted for the APGNN Annual Meeting and participates in the blind review.
  • Solicits and supports applications for the Susan Moyer Research Grant  .
  • Involved in ongoing projects including the NOVEL project  in conjunction with the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and assists in research related to the APGNN Pediatric GI Assessment-Based Certificate Program .

Patient and Professional Education Committee

  • Develops and reviews education materials for both patients/families and professionals.
  • In conjunction with the NASPGHAN Public Education Committee, the members create informational items for the GIKids website  and participate in the 3-year-cyle review.
  • Focuses on professional development for APGNN Members, such as evidence-based Nursing Telephone Triage Protocols.
  • The committee also solicits and supports applications for the APGNN Excellence in Education Award .

Program Committee

  • Assists in the planning of APGNN Annual Meeting, which is held each fall in conjunction with the NASPGHAN & CPNP Meetings.
  • Committee members brainstorm topics to present each year, contact potential speakers, and organize the program agenda.
  • During the conference, the Program Committee assists in the logistics of the annual meeting and works with the Membership Committee to plan the APGNN social event.
  • Following the conference, the committee reviews all evaluations, incorporating feedback into future planning.
