William Balistreri Fund

The NASPGHAN Foundation has committed to endow an award recognizing the many contributions of Dr. William Balistreri, to NASPGHAN and the entire field of academic pediatrics. Every generation has its exceptional leaders; those individuals who transcend the norm, and make an indelible impact on their profession. Bill Balistreri is such an individual. Bill has stood for excellence in clinical care, education, and research. He has contributed more than 500 scholarly works to our field. The effect he has had in the course of his career has been profound; whether on a local level with his patients and families and the countless numbers of trainees and colleagues whose careers he has influenced, or on a national stage in the leadership roles in which he has shaped the fields of pediatrics, pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition. For the past six years, Dr. Balistreri has led the NASPGHAN Foundation as its President with the same zeal, passion and wisdom that have defined his career for three decades. He has also served as NASPGHAN President and editor of the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. In honor of this extraordinary devotion to pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition, and to NASPGHAN, we are pleased to introduce the William F. Balistreri, MD Prize for Excellence in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. This award will recognize outstanding achievement in an area relevant to our field to be bestowed at the annual NASPGHAN meeting.
